It's been so long since my last post. I do apologise but in between running the business, keeping track of orders & repairs, working with my husband, catching up with my fabulous staff and being chauffeur to two almost teenagers something has to give.
Well, what's new you ask? Spring is finally here and that means weddings, weddings, weddings. In the last couple of years I've noticed a real change. Clients are really taking their time to think about their wedding bands - the men especially. No longer do they settle for just a plain traditional wedded. They like to add their own personal touch. It can be a surprise engraved message, a stone setting or a combination of different alloys and materials. Unique is not something to fear but rather embrace.
I always tell my clients to get their wedding bands done early. As a manufacturer we can always alter designs - by that I mean we can thin the band or even add diamonds if they prefer. The ladies and gents have all been so lovely. It's a great industry I work in. I'm blessed to see young love, new found love and even second time around love.
We are finally up and running...
Ladies and gentlemen, Rodricks has re-opened. After countless meetings, discussions, interviews, wheeling and dealing we have opened. Standing in front of the old premises all appeared fine. The design layout had served its purpose. Our talented architect had come up with an amazing space to feature our beautiful hand crafted jewellery. As we really "looked" at the store, however, we all agreed that a change was needed. Our twelve year old business was in need of a serious upgrade.
Trends had changed, yellow gold was making a comeback, the Australian jewellery consumer was interested in having fun and stepping out of the box a little. Coloured gemstones were making a statement. Pearls were no longer playing second fiddle to the diamond. Yes, my friends, it was time for a change.

Can you believe it's Christmas???
We have been so busy concentrating on opening the shop that we were completely blindsided by Christmas. Southland is now in full swing with the carols blasting throughout the centre and even the Salvation Army band performing. The decorations are up in our store and Steven is busily working with his team to finish all the last minute requests and orders.
It is still nice to know that so many still want to be surprised. Our well seasoned clients came in early on and offered their spouses "options". Whether that cocktail ring or perhaps those diamond studs would suit. Either way, they surely made their partners life that little bit easier by choosing their favourites. Many Rodricks business cards have re-entered the shop with style numbers clearly marked on the back. We must admit that most have been men with grateful looks on their faces. Job done! Selected, wrapped and to be placed under the tree.
We did have a lovely first time client who had forgotten to buy his wife a "pushing" present. He was now the proud father to a very healthy 3 month old boy. He wanted an extra special Christmas present. We patiently helped to narrow the search until he decided on a beautiful pair of diamond claw set hoop earrings - "just big enough to make a statement but not too big to catch his little ones attention". There is nothing more rewarding than a big smile and an expressive thank you from a very grateful client. It truly is the little things that make our day.
New stock is appearing daily. The yellow onyx figures have arrived safely and are stopping many a passer by. The toucans, parrots, horses are just pure works of art. They truly look so beautiful, I have one horse head that graces my office desk.
Let the craziness begin and don't forget the late night trading hours. Enjoy.
